DEW GLITTERED IN the dawn. The remnants of rain glistened on every serrated leaf and spiky stem of grass. Inhaling the fresh cleansed air, Azana wallowed in the early morning. She loved being out and up when the whole world seemed to be sleeping. Only the twitter of birds, the raucous laughter of crows, and the steady thrump of a woodpecker joined her in the hills. The soft shuffle of wet leaves as she ducked under a looming birch branch; cold dewdrops sprinkled her head, morning’s treasure.
